Ideal Duran Duran Set List; No Hits July 30th, 2013 Hi Nick, All of us fans love to debate what songs should be played live and which ones should not. Since you are the master at making lists, what would your ideal set list be if you couldn't play any songs that have been released as singles and have video's? Thanks Nick, Mike Vettel Mike, I guess we could just play a two hour extended version of "The Man Who Stole a Leopard." I don't think there are too many songs left in the catalogue that we have never played at some stage; possibly a few on the third album and "Notorious." I'd have to have a long think if we were to put together the most obscure Duran Duran show ever! Nick www.duranduran.com/wordpress/new-site-ask-katy/

I hope he was being snide when he said that.

I think he was. And deservedly so. I can understand that the fans want some rarities in a show, but just because it's not often heard means that it should be heard. Sure, there are some lovely gems in there, but there's a lot of filler and crap, too. Can DD afford to do shows for the fanbase only? No. And that's been explained a hundred times, in detail, to the tards that think the band can afford to come to their little town and play at the local bar just for them. Yay, Nick!

Don't you think that most of the fans going to the shows ARE the fanbase? I doubt too many new listeners are going to pay for tickets to see them.

The fanbase at present is around a hundred people, maybe three hundred if you count non-english-speaking countries.
I think that's why they (and so many others) are doing casino shows - the gamblers get comp tickets, but they'll buy a lot of drinks, and townies might stop by if there's an interesting act playing.
As far as that goes, I can't remember the last time I saw any band's concert advertised anywhere. It used to be that the bands or radio stations or record companies would run commercials on tv, radio, the internet, everywhere. Nowadays you have to look up individual acts - if they come to mind - on the web, and I'm not gonna search every band I can think of, I don't have the time or patience.

They advertise a LOT up here for the bands that go to Saratoga's SPAC center. The Dave Matthew's Band was up there, I wish we could have gone to see them.

The local paper advertises a bit for the Kent Stage. Maybe the Cleveland papers advertise the venues up there, but I'm not buying a paper I won't read just for a couple of ads. Mostly it's checking in with each of the venues, or at the website of some entertainer I hope to see, or randomly hearing about it by word of mouth. Too much work and randomness.

Yeah, the larger papers would be the ones you'd have to see. They wouldn't advertise in smaller papers because to them it's a waste of advertising money.
