I paid a visit to Mark's board to see if there was anything interesting going on. There isn't. They don't have any more to talk about than we do here. There are more threads, but it's a case of grabbing on to anything even remotely connected with the band. It's not that board's fault, mind, it's the complete asbsence of news from Duran Duran. Even when they do say something it's a rehash of things they've said before, dance songs on the album, blahblahblah, durantime, yadda yadda... But most of what they're saying is nothing. No news on who ultimately produced the album, no mention of plans for a tour, no clear idea of where they're at in the process other than to bump the release date up to next spring. It's starting to sound like Andy's last 2 albums.

It is a shame, you'd think they would send song clips out and stuff like they did with Astronaut.

Exactly.
I don't do Twitter anymore, so I can't say what's going on there, but I did stop by Farcebook for a couple minutes the other day. Nuttin'. Even the assorted fansites are dead.
They aren't under any obligations to any record company so there's nothing to stop them from playing a night in a London pub, unannounced, just to get a little attention. They could leak a 20-second bit from a song in the next day or two, then another bit from another song next month, it would keep focused what little interest remains. They could do a mini-tour in, say, a dozen tourist destinations over the summer, not big venues, not big production shows, more like a 45-minute greatest hits set in a biergarten in Frankfurt, on a tourist boat circling Sicily, at a hippiefest in Ibiza, that sort of thing, no major deal. It would increase and maintain interest.
If they don't do something soon there won't be anyone left to notice what the album's like when it's finally released. If it's released.

Prince does shit like that, going to clubs practically unannounced, and it's always good.
There is nothing stopping them from getting more publicity except themselves.

Over the decades I've heard of lots of bands doing that. Even the Rolling Stones did it a few times way back when.

DD thinks they are too good for stuff like that.

They need to start rethinking.
I have no doubt that they still have enough money to live a lot better than they did when they were growing up, but do they have enough to live large, especially during retirement? Of that I'm not so sure.

With people like John and Simon, being married to models/designers, I'm not sure about that. Nick, well..... he needs money to keep him in eyeliner and new synth tech.

Exactly. They've all acquired some expensive tastes. No doubt the royalties from their early stuff are still trickling in, but once you reach a certain age putting on makeup - and hair - and getting surgeries to tighten up what loosened up over the years - gets expensive.
