Maybe he thought telling you in advance would be even scarier. At least your son did a good job. Cruising around big empty parking lots is good practice too. You could take him to the biggest church in town during the week on your days off. He'll have to have his permit though.

Yeah, Hubby was just doing this because he doesn't need a permit to do it. Plus he wants to teach him the mechanics of the car before he actually starts driving. It's too bad with all the budget cuts in the schools they've had to do away with most driver's ed programs.

They made the football coaches teach driver's ed at my school. They were cool, and they knew about cars, but there were so many kids taking the classes that each of us only got to drive about an hour per week. With you and your hubs teaching him your son will get in a lot more hours of practice.

Me? No, I don't have the nerve to do it, Hubby will be taking care of that. I'd be a wreck in the car with Son. Learning how to drive is enough of a stress without a freaking out mother next to you to make it worse.

Nah, he'd be nervous enough without me adding to it.

They should let school bus drivers teach drivers' ed in the summer. Those guys and gals know how to handle stress behind the wheel for sure. Or limo drivers.

This cheapass school district wouldn't spend the money to do that.

Hmm...
Well, some classes have extra fees, they can charge the students (their parents, actually) a modest sum. $30 for a month at 3 hours per day sounds pretty reasonable.
Divide the kids into groups of three, put the groups into cars donated by car dealers or rental agencies. There won't be enough cars to go around, so they can switch off between driving and classwork.

That sounds like something that makes too much sense, which means it would never happen around here. These people are too fucking stupid to see a good idea when it comes to them.

I know what you mean. It's bad enough when people can't think outside the box, but when they actively work to make the box even smaller... why don't they quit and let someone with a clue run things?

Because it's the same reason these people are so into religion, they don't have to think, or worry, or have any concern. Seems strange because I always thought religion was a basis to care about others, but they have bastardized it so much it's unrecognizable anymore.

I'm glad that organized religion is dying. I hope the rest of stupid control-freaki groups die soon as well.

It can't die soon enough for me.
